WELCOME

Julie Davis, PhD

Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Welcome to my private practice, where I specialize in working with women, children, and families. I invite you to read through my information below and contact me with any questions as you work to find a therapist who will be the right fit for you or your child and family.

Areas of Expertise

Adult Therapy

I have expertise in working with young adult and adult women who are experiencing anxiety and depression related to life challenges and changes. These could include but are not limited to, relationship transitions, a new job, going to college, loss of a loved one, infertility, pregnancy, becoming a parent, children moving away from home.

We will work together to clarify your concerns and identify realistic goals.  I will help you build on your existing personal strengths, enhance your social support network, and challenge ways of thinking that are contributing to your distress. I will ask you to be an active participant in your treatment and work on strategies between sessions to optimize your progress.

I have specialized training to work with women struggling with anxiety and depression in the perinatal period, including families of parents of children who have spent time in the NICU. I will support you through this major life transition as we work to improve your symptoms and balance your identity  as a parent and partner with your identity and needs as an individual. I can also work with you and your infant together if you have concerns about developing your bond and reading your child's cues.

Child Therapy

I have over 10 years of experience working with children and families.  I specialize in short-term, goal oriented work with children ages 0-10 and their families. Families often come to me if their young children seem sad, worried, or are acting out.  If you are seeking treatment for your child, it is important for you to know that I will  work closely with parents throughout the therapeutic process. I strongly believe parents are the biggest agent of change in their children's lives. Using my expertise in child development, psychopathology and behavior change and your expertise on your child, we will assess your child's challenges and their strengths and formulate goals together.  After the first 2-3 sessions, I will give you a detailed treatment plan to help you make changes at home that will support your child's mental health.

Family therapy

I have specialized training to work with young children (infancy through age six) and  parents together. This can be helpful if you are concerned about bonding (i.e. child has a challenging temperament or behavior problems; parent experienced post-postpartum mood or anxiety disorder; child was adopted and bonding was thus delayed). I will work with you together in session to strengthen your sense of self-efficacy as a parent, assist you in reading your child's cues, increase positive interactions between you and your child, and work on behavior management if needed.

I do not provide medications, but I will refer you or your child to medical providers if I believe medication would be a helpful adjunct to therapy.

Approach to Therapy

I am experienced with several evidence based treatments. My approach is integrative, and I draw from cognitive behavioral, interpersonal, mindfulness, positive psychology, psychodynamic, and family systems models of treatment.

I offer short term, goal directed treatment for children and adult women. I also offer longer term personal growth oriented treatment for adult women. Together we will determine what the correct approach is for you or your child based on your wishes, needs, and current research.

I will likely ask you to fill out evidence based assessments at the start of treatment and at time points throughout so that we can track progress towards treatment goals and make decisions about readiness for discharge.
